With the Renaissance, Catalonia began a period of recovery and affirmation of their identity as a people. In one of its aspects, this movement represented a return to cultural roots of the village, which resulted in the recovery of popular traditions. Several aspects of this culture fields and soon knew a strong activity, such as storytelling or song.
Arrived in 1900, this activity came to the popular and traditional dance, and in 1902, Vic, took place the first performance of dances by some of dance enthusiasts who were members of the society viguetana "Old Catalonia" and was the flame that lit the fire beyond the area of Vic. Three years later, in 1905, Section Hiker Folklòrica del Centre of Catalonia instituted a prize for best collection of Catalan folk dances.
With this background, it happened in 1907, the foundation of the first group dedicated to these activities within the framework of the Catalan Association of Reading, which was called "Esbart of dancers." Under the direction of Aureli Capmany, in collaboration with Rafael Tudo, make your presentation and first performance on January 25, 1908.
Soon after, there was a split between the two partners whose root Rafael Tudo founded Esbart Catalan dancers. On July 8, 1908, the company introduced its first new statutes. On 23 August the same year, he made his first dance, in private, in the Hall of Trials of Catalan Music Palace, newly opened, on 23 September, was officially presented as part of Palace of Fine Arts in Barcelona as part of the Fiestas de la Merce in Barcelona.
In 1909, Rafael Tudo resigned his post and, as the Catalan Association of Reading had been dissolved and she Esbart of dancers, one Aureli Capmany asked to do is the head of the Catalan Esbart of dancers, a position he gladly accepted. With it, Esbart began a period of intense activity which include the creation of the first pieces of clothing, in 1912. To this task he took as a sign the clothing used by the people of Catalonia in the late eighteenth century and the early nineteenth century. The same year, was made the flagship of the company, with a design that appeals the Masters Esbart gift after attending a session of beautiful dances. While the company publishes a collection of postcards with photographs of various dancers taken in Parc Güell in Barcelona. These images have been reproduced many times in books, journal articles or programs for various events.
