Mercè Plantada i Vicente
(Barcelona, 1892 — Vilafranca del Penedès, Alt Penedès, 1976)

Mercè Plantada studied at the Centre de Cultura Musical Antonio Colome. In 1913, presented to the public in a lieder recital at the Palau de la Musica Catalan. Thus started a very intense artistic life, focusing primarily in Barcelona. He performed with major orchestras all the time: Symphony, Philharmonic, the Lyceum, and Pablo Casals, the Municipal Band (a fact that became the first performer singing with accompaniment unique wind instrument) and the Catalan Gracienc and choral societies. He also collaborated with the Wagnerian Association of Barcelona. It was therefore common to see signs of it led the music program in Barcelona, especially in concerts of lieder, his specialty. Also brought their art in Paris and other European capitals in North Africa.
The flexibility of his voice and his good performance as well as his taste in the interpretation of lieder, justified its success. He was so admired that even composers like Falla, Stravinsky, Samper, Pittaluga, Strauss, Manen, Toldrà Montsalvatge or Lamote de Grignon, entrusted the interpretation of his works. In 1925 Mercedes planting sang compositions by Richard Strauss accompanied on piano by the composer. From Toldrà premiered some songs, such as The giravolt May piece that the composer had written especially for her. Directed by Manuel de Falla's El Amor Brujo played.
In addition to her concert life she was also a professor at the "Conservatori Superior de Musica del Liceu". The combination of the two lives, one on the stage and the other in the classroom earned her the Medal of Artistic Merit, which was given by the City Council in 1967.
